Meet Michele Folsom

Michele Folsom, CPC, RH-CBS, CAH-CBS Certified Professional Coder/Auditor

Michelle joined ICAHN as the organization’s first remote coder in June of 2019, assisting rural hospitals with their coding and auditing needs. She also oversees the HIM / coding listserv, providing feedback to our member hospitals. Michelle is proud to work for ICAHN, having a statewide impact in rural healthcare. Her drive and passion as a remote coder carries a level of responsibility and facilitation of tasks assisting member hospitals via coding and education to ensure the flow of revenue remains uninterrupted.

Her background includes 32 years of experience within the medical field working in registration, office management, insurance billing and AR accounts. She joined the coding and compliance world in 2000, coding medical charts with CPT and ICD-9-CM codes. She received the CPC certification through the AAPC in May 2007. She has coded in the critical access hospital space, transitioning to the role of Director of HIM where she abstracted and reported cases to the ISCR (Cancer Registry). She obtained her RH-CBS in 2017 through the ICAHN-sponsored RHC Boot Camp, followed by CAH-CBS certifications for rural health.

What do you love about rural healthcare?

Realization of the value and priority of patient care within the rural community. I am afforded the opportunity and have the dedication to assist and support member hospitals through my knowledge and passion of coding.
