Supporting Quality Care Through Objective Peer Review
Maintaining high-quality patient care requires strong clinical oversight, meaningful evaluation processes, and access to qualified peer reviewers. ICAHN’s External Peer Review Network (EPRN) helps rural hospitals strengthen quality improvement efforts by providing objective external peer review support when additional expertise or independent review is needed.
Designed specifically for rural healthcare organizations, EPRN assists hospitals in evaluating physician performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and supporting effective medical staff review processes.
External Peer Review Support for Rural Hospitals
ICAHN’s EPRN program supports hospitals by:
-
Improving the quality of care provided by the medical staff
-
Supporting physician performance evaluation
-
Identifying opportunities for clinical performance improvement
-
Providing objective external review when additional expertise is needed
EPRN is particularly valuable when a hospital’s internal peer review process identifies situations such as:
-
Potential conflicts of interest among available reviewers
-
Limited access to specialty-specific clinical expertise
-
Ambiguous or conflicting findings
-
Lack of consensus regarding review outcomes
ICAHN works collaboratively with hospitals to provide an independent, professional review process that supports quality care, patient safety, and medical staff accountability.
Designed for Rural Healthcare
ICAHN understands the unique challenges rural hospitals face in maintaining robust peer review processes while balancing limited staffing resources and access to specialty expertise. EPRN was developed to provide rural hospitals with practical access to qualified reviewers who understand the realities of rural healthcare delivery.
The program helps hospitals strengthen internal quality programs while supporting a fair, confidential, and clinically focused review process.
