Lindsey Culver, Director of Radiology at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, Lawrenceville

The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network (ICAHN) announced their “4 Under 40” Hospital Leadership winners, including Lindsey Culver, Director of Radiology, Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, Lawrenceville, during the organization’s 20th Anniversary Annual Conference held November 28 and 29 at the I-Hotel and Conference Center, Champaign.

She is joined in this honor with Ashlyn Housewright, Executive Director of Community Health & Wellness, Memorial Hospital, Carthage; Jessica Diane Carter, Director of Nursing Services, Ferrell Hospital; and Colton Anderson, Director of Clinic Services, Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

Culver has been with Lawrence County Memorial Hospital for 20 years, beginning as a technologist and working up to her current position. She goes above and beyond to help people in her community. Culver works closely with businesses in her community to provide screenings and mammograms for employees during working hours. She also works with three other critical access hospitals to provide mobile mammograms.

In 2019, Culver changed the radiology department to provide 24/7 on-site staff and a plan to provide emergent ultrasound afterhours. She also worked to get a new CT scan machine installed in 2020. These implementations provide patients in her community with more accessible and high-quality care.

“I know one of Lindsey’s great accomplishments is the number of women she has reached out to and lives she has saved. Her outreach for breast cancer far exceeds any rewards or plaques she will ever get,” said Gene Allen, Director of Hospital Organizations at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. “I know several women who have had breast cancer caught early due to the messaging from Lindsey and her team. Lindsey’s accomplishments are many, from growing her radiology department, to adding new services, to being a leader amongst her peers.”

Her involvement and passion to help others extends beyond her own community. In December 2021, a tornado outbreak devastated multiple towns in Kentucky, including the small town of Dawson Springs. Culver, along with a group of passionate individuals, organized a donation drive to provide clothing, supplies, and toys to the affected towns. Within 2 weeks, her actions spread throughout the community, and the group had to rent basement space from a local church for the thousands of items that were donated from the community.

“This is who Lindsey is as a person,” said Allen. “Her leadership and compassion trickles down to others in the community and hospital.”

Culver serves as a mentor for the Radiology Program at Eastern Illinois Community College in Olney, IL. She also volunteers in her community, representing her hospital in parades, at health fairs, family fun nights, or any event that the hospital hosts.

“We are all very proud of her and could not ask for a better leader,” said Myra Bryan, Precertification Specialist at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

ICAHN’s “4 Under 40” Hospital Leadership Award is open to new and emerging leaders aged 40 and under employed by an ICAHN member hospital or as a member of this hospital’s board for at least two years with a strong record of innovation and outstanding performance.

Located in Princeton, IL, ICAHN is a network of 59 small, rural hospitals dedicated to strengthening the operations of its member hospitals through collaboration. The organization is composed of Illinois hospitals who have earned critical access hospital designation by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is recognized nationally for its work with rural healthcare, administering several state, federal, and private healthcare programs.
