Meet Liz Swanson

Liz Swanson Assistant Director of Professional Education

As ICAHN’s Assistant Director of Professional Education Services, Liz Swanson plays a key role in planning and delivering educational programs tailored to the needs of rural healthcare teams. She is actively involved in grant writing, budgeting, and the development of impactful educational events. Liz also oversees documentation and record keeping for nursing contact hours. In addition to her organizational leadership, Liz brings a passion for presenting, particularly in helping supervisors grow their leadership skills. Known for her dedication and flexibility, Liz will do whatever she can to ensure the success of every event.

Liz has spent the majority of her career working in the nonprofit sector, bringing energy and heart to a wide range of missions. She served for several years as a professional Girl Scout and also held roles with the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association. One of her most rewarding projects was coordinating a team of AmeriCorps volunteers who helped senior citizens across Missouri navigate their Medicare options. Liz’s career path has been anything but conventional—she and her husband even owned a restaurant at one point. And while she has yet to use her Fashion Merchandising degree from William Woods College, she’s found no shortage of meaningful and memorable ways to make a difference.

What do you love about rural healthcare?

What I love most about rural health is simple: If you're going to live in a rural area, you need access to healthcare. Without it, a community can’t survive — healthcare is essential to its stability and future. I see rural health as a stake in the ground, anchoring the vitality and longevity of our rural communities. If I can play even a small part in that mission, then the work is absolutely worthwhile.
