ICAHN announces recipients of EMS Education and Operational Improvement/IT grant awards

The funding for the Flex Grant is through the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant Program and made available to ICAHN through the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Center for Rural Health. Regarding EMS education, many hospitals are using the Flex grant monies to purchase updated American Heart Association training manuals and videos for ACLS/PALS/BLS CPR classes. Others are purchasing CPR manikins or are using the grant monies for rural specific EMS training, stroke education, or EKG training. Regarding Operational Improvement and IT, the grant monies are mainly being used for information technology updates including risk assessment or tech infrastructure reviews. Others are adding voice dictation for documentation or improving certain types of hardware.
