The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network (ICAHN) announced its “4 Under 40” Hospital Leadership winners including Brandon Wietting, Revenue Cycle Director, Massac Memorial Hospital, Metropolis, during its Annual Conference and Awards Ceremony, held November 10 at the I-Hotel and Conference Center, Champaign.

Brandon is joined by Mariah Bargman, Community Relations and Marketing Director, Memorial Hospital, Chester; Tyler Killpack, Director of Operations/Chief of Staff to the CEO, Mercyhealth Harvard Hospital; and Kali Martin, Emergency Department Manager, Horizon Health, Paris.

Nominated by Lynn Goines, Chief Financial Officer, Massac Memorial Hospital, she notes that “Brandon always strives for the best work environment for his staff, leading in the most efficient way and continually pushing his limits of creativity to find opportunities that better our hospital and the manner in which we do things.”

Brandon has also demonstrated leadership by continuing to grow the number of departments he supervises. These departments include business office, medical records/coding, OP patient access, ER patient access, clinic patient access and pre-registration and scheduling.

“He leads this team by holding them accountable and empowering them with decision-making authority within the revenue cycle area,” said Goines. “Brandon was instrumental in getting automated financial assistance application approvals through the system for more timely completion and follow-up, and he created daily dashboards for the leadership team on hospital operation.”

In order to gain better control of procedures for collections, discounts, and communication with patients on payments in general, Brandon led the development of a new department for pre-registrations. He streamlined the hospital’s discount policy as well as its financial assistance program. After implementation of all these new processes, AR days dropped dramatically, and “all employees feel confident working with our patients using these procedures,” Goines added.

ICAHN’s “4 Under 40” Hospital Leadership Award is open to new and emerging leaders aged 40 and under employed by an ICAHN member hospital or as a member of this hospital’s board for at least two years with a strong record of innovation and outstanding performance.
